The journey starts from Palermo going west and the first stop is at the Fondazione Piccolo in Capo d’Orlando, a house-museum where the three brothers Agata-Giovanna, Casimiro and Lucio Piccolo di Calanovella lived together. Walking through the park that surrounds the nineteenth-century villa, amongst arboreal rarities, one of the few dog cemeteries of the world is to be found under a great pine tree. The cousin of the Piccolo’s, Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa, often visited them and had his own room, where he wrote some pages of “ The Leopard”. From the window of his room you can see the shadow of the profile of the island of Salina. We leave the magical atmosphere of the ancient residence to visit the La Baronia winery estate of Capo Milazzo and take a walk through the grapevines, up to the lighthouse. In the evening we arrive on mount Etna after crossing the Nebordi mountains, our road being illuminated by the full moon.
