Where would you go to find the perfect place for a real blind tasting in the total darkness? We have been questioning it for a while and in the end we have brought our Ambassadors in a “trip to the center of the Earth” among the Realmonte salt mining caves.

A fantastic journey in the space,160 meters below ground, and over time, up to 6 million years ago: this field dates back to the time when the Strait of Gibraltar suddenly closed and the Mediterranean Sea became a gigantic salt lake. After hundres of thousands of years everything came back as before because of a great flood, and Sicily found itself lying on pure salt fields.

With helmets on, we started downhill in the depths of the mine, with a stop in the great Salt Cathedral, and then further down to our special “tasting room”. To set the scenery, a gorgeous rock rosette, which was formed by the crossing of salgemma with other minerals: a true witness of the perfection of nature.

With the lights off to fulky appreciate the magic of the darkness, our Ambassadors have shown their ability, guessing what we had poured into their glasses: Burdese 2007 and Etna Bianco 2015.

A special thanks to Italkali!
