THE SECOND YEAR OF THE ‘SCIARANUOVA FESTIVAL’ BEGINS ON 29TH JULY PLANETA’S ’THEATRE IN THE VINEYARD’ ON ETNA
A natural stage in the shadow of the volcano, four artists directed by a Sicilian woman in love with her island
When: 29th and 30th July, 5th and 6th August 2016
Where: at the ‘Theatre in the Vineyard’ at Sciaranuova, Passopisciaro (Castiglione di Sicilia).
What: a Planeta project for art and territory, with Paola Pace’s artistic direction (notes attached) and staging by Valeria Di Chiara. Input from Vincenza Pirrotta, Trizziridonna, Massimo Verdastro and Rosario Tedesco.
A natural stage in the shadow of the volcano, between an ancient pine wood and terraces which were once vineyards, where Planeta has established their own theatre in the open air. Four artists, directed by a Sicilian woman in love with her island. This is the formula for the second year of the ‘Sciaranuova Festival’ produced by Planeta on their Sciaranuova estate at Passopisciaro (Castiglione di Sicilia).
The inaugural show will be on Friday 29th July. Vincenzo Pirrotta, a great contemporary author, will bring his early novel ‘In the shadow of the hill’ to the stage.
Saturday 39th July will be Trizziridonna’s turn, with their concert ‘A vucca ri l’arma’. Three women who weave together songs, legends and Sicilian spells.
During the morning of Sunday 31st July, outside the theatre, Paola Pace and Valeria Di Chiara will guide the public in a new ‘poetic walk’ to discover flowers and the volcano’s ‘local’ poetry.
The programme for the second weekend of the Festival will begin on Friday 5th August when Massimo Verdastro will present ‘Una Divina di Palermo’ by the poet Nino Gennaro, a nocturnal cult monologue, harrowing and metropolitan.
Rosario Tedesco will close the Festival on 6th August with ‘Se dico Goethe’, a play pursuing the tracks of the German poet in his famous ‘Italian Journey’.
Finally, on the 7th August Rosario Tedesco will lead a walk ‘Leaving’, following Goethe’s steps and those of other poets on Etna.
The performances will begin at sunset and will be preceded by an aperitif with Planeta wines.
