An exclusive tasting of Didacus, a Chardonnay dedicated to Diego Planeta.
The first bottle of Mamertino, representing the achievement of the Capo Milazzo project.
The first bottle of Terebinto, a very new Grillo from the territory of Menfi.
And an olive grove growing by a further 13,000 trees at Capparrina, as well as a new hospitality project with the opening of La Foresteria Palermo.
Vinitaly 2017 provides an opportunity to present three new wines and the perfect conclusion to our journey in Sicily, where we are now established in 5 territories and 7 denominated areas.
It has been a long journey, in which we have always aimed to increasingly develop ‘the Sicilian experience’ at the heart of our undertaking; wine, olive oil, culture and hospitality. An undertaking where our choices are always directed to generating benefits for all the resources involved – the people, the countryside and the culture – and where the protection and study of beauty represent an essential criterion, of equal importance to the ethics of production and relationships.
DIDACUS: A CHARDONNAY FOR DIEGO PLANETA
This Vinitaly is an opportunity to introduce Didacus to the public for the first time, a wine which represents the essence of our history. It is a Chardonnay which we wish to dedicate to Diego Planeta, because it originates from our very first vineyard, planted in 1985 on the shore of the Ulmo lake in the Menfi district. As well as bearing the memory of a symbol, for us Didacus expresses elegance and tradition, family and the future; it embodies our vision of wine and Sicily as we have always dreamt of them.
MAMERTINO: WE COMPLETE OUR JOURNEY IN SICILY AT CAPO MILAZZO
We will also introduce the first bottle of Mamertino at Vinitaly, thereby achieving the completion of our project at the young estate of Capo Milazzo. When we finally arrived here we understood at once that – after Menfi, Vittoria, Noto and Etna – this would be the right place to close the circle of our journey, undertaken with the intention of producing the wines of Sicily in all its territories. Mamertino is one of the oldest wines in the history of Sicily, a wine which can be traced back to Roman times, and because of this we have enthusiastically pursued its development in an extraordinary context leading us to a process of sustainable viticulture not only from an environmental but also from social and economic aspects.
TEREBINTO: OUR FIRST SINGLE-VARIETY GRILLO
Our production at Menfi continues to increase with Terebinto, our first single-variety Grillo. We wanted to conduct similar tests, concentrating on research into its typical characteristics, that we have carried out for years on Grecanico through our Alastro. Thus we are now able to present our very personal interpretations of the two most important white grape varieties of western Sicily.
The name for the Grillo wine was selected, not by chance, from a shrub with bright fronds, familiar in Sicily and the Mediterranean countryside from east to west.
LA SEGRETA: CHANGING ITS APPEARANCE, PRESERVING BODY AND SOUL
Still drawing on our roots, the ancient map of Ulmo which this year has been an important feature of restyling La Segreta wine, will be presented at Vinitaly on the new bottles of both white and red. The label has been changed to indicate a memory, while we have preserved intact the body and soul of these wines with their unique and unmistakable character, able to describe the various essential features of the island’s territories.
L’OLIVETO: CAPPARRINA IS INCREASED BY MORE THAN 13,000 TREES
We will also tell visitors to our Vinitaly stand of another great novelty this year, beginning with our planting of more than 13,000 olive trees at Capparrina; another 50 hectares added to the existing 100 hectares, forming a single area olive grove among the largest in Sicily. This is a project with great value for the countryside, for the environment and the quality of our three olive oils, also thanks to a new decanter which contributes greatly to the work in the olive press situated right in the centre of the estate.
LA FORESTERIA PALERMO: OUR HOSPITALITY IN THE CAPITAL OF CULTURE 2018
In 2017 our hospitality project also increases; La Foresteria Palermo begins, in the heart of the historic centre of the capital, which will be the Italian Capital of Culture 2018. After La Foresteria at Menfi, the seven apartments in Palermo incorporate the essence and style of our hospitality, in a palazzo which represents a slice of our family history in the ‘salotto’ of Via Principe di Belmonte.
We await your presence this year at Vinitaly, Pavilion 2 Sicicila Stand 82 E/86 F.
