Planeta has partnered with O-I glass factory in Marsala, the only glass factory in Sicily, to produce 100% Sicilian wine bottles, made from recycled glass collected solely from bottles on the island. These new recycled bottles, called 100% Sicilia, endeavors to reduce waste and carbon footprint. Recycling local glass and producing a lighter bottle (410 grams) will reduce carbon emissions during the bottling and distribution phases. These new bottles feature an embossing on the bottom of the bottle representing the shape of the island of Sicily.
The development of these bottles was spearheaded by SOStain Sicily Foundation, a sustainability organization which Planeta has been a member since its inception. Planeta’s first wines to use these new bottles will be Terbinto and Alastro. A small symbol of more greatness coming out of Sicily.
